It is always a great bonding experience to get out in the fresh air and take a nice and peaceful walk with our dog.  We talk to our dog, he sniffs the neighbor’s new flowers and we get to spy on our neighbors without them suspecting anything.  (Only kidding!).  We have spent a lot of time working with our dog to get to this point and he feels completely safe and secure with us engaging in this activity.

All of a sudden, a strange dog comes from around a tree and charges us.  We have never seen this dog so we don’t know if he is friendly and just excited to see us or if he is aggressive and thinks we are hostile transgressors within his territory.

What you do in the next few seconds could easily defuse the entire situation or make it far worse and dangerous for you and your dog.  Robin and I have a great article that recounts an experience I had with our dog.  It explains what you need to do and “not do” to keep yourself, your dog, and even the other dog safe and calm.  Please check out our article titled “What Should I do if a Dog Charges Me and my Dog”.
