Walking your dog is an important social event that helps build the bond and trust that you, as your dog’s owner, need to cultivate with your dog. It helps to show your dog that when you both are out and about, you will always make the correct decision to keep him safe and secure.
Leash walking is something that is not necessarily natural to all dogs. It takes away the natural “flight” aspect of their “fight or flight” mode when outside of their natural area. If your dog is scared of the leash and does not like to go on walks, forcing him does no good. All you end up accomplishing is pulling your dog around the block.
In order to properly teach your dog to walk on the leash and that everything will be fine takes a little time and a lot of patience. The good news is that it isn’t that hard, if you keep with the plan we have developed.
